Late Professor Ravindra Nath Sharma (24-12-1921) (6-9-1992)

Prof. Ravindra Nath Sharma-a doyen of Plastic Surgery and a Founder Member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, a winner of the prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy Award along with many national and International awards and honours. He laid the foundation of Plastic Surgery in Northern India in 1953 at Lucknow and established a Post-graduate department of Plastic Surgery in 1976. He continued to guide its activities as Professor and Head till he retired in 1982 by which time Lucknow had been established as a centre for acquiring high professional skills and post-graduate training in the specialty. He qualified in Medicine and completed his M. B. B. S. in 1944 from K. G. Med. College. His post graduation in General Surgery in 1946 was achieved under the able guidance of the father figure of E. N. T. Surgery: Late Prof. R. N. Misra when he published a thesis on Ear Drum and its perforations. Some of his other achievements include F. R C. S. England (1951) Awarded Govt. of India Scholarship (1949). Commonwealth Senior Medical Fellowship (1975), Member I.M.A., A.S.I. British Association of Plastic Surgeons, International Federation of Plastic Surgeons, Plastic Surgery section of A. S. I. Hindu Kusht Nivarak Sangh. U.P. India, Society of rehabilitation Handicapped Association of advancement of Medical Education. American Cleft Palate Association and I.C.M.R. review panel on research projects on Rehabilitation, Fellowship of Royal Society of Medicine Vice President (1958 and 1965) and President (1966) of Plastic Surgery Section of A.S.I Member Governing Body of A.S.I. (1969) Retired emeritus Professor and Head of Deptt. of Plastic Surgery K.G's Medical College.

Besides his interest in academics he bad another facet of his personality wherein he Was the cynosure in many extra curricular activities in the Institution especially in regard to dramatics-both as an artist during his student days and later as its mentor by guiding cultural and sports activities for several decades. He was the moving spirit behind many a "GEORGIAN" activities in the institution. He has left behind a legacy of professional excellence, hard work and dedication and memories of the establishment of Plastic Surgery as a well recognised specialty not only in K.G. Medical College but also in the country & has set goals & heights for others to emulate. He is survived by his wife Dr. Santosh Sharma (Retd.) Joint Director Medical &. Health Services. U.P.
